Microsuction is often more comfortable and effective if the wax has been softened beforehand. We usually recommend using a medical grade olive oil spray into the affected ear or ears twice a day for several days before your appointment, unless you have been advised not to use ear drops.

Microsuction is precise, quick and usually very comfortable. Because no water is used, there is a lower risk of ear infection and it is often suitable for people with a history of ear problems or previous ear surgery, when clinically appropriate.

Most people experience little or no discomfort during microsuction. As with any ear procedure, there is a small risk of temporary dizziness, slight bleeding or irritation of the ear canal. Your pharmacist will talk you through the process and stop if you feel uncomfortable at any point.
